Mason Gross seeks a highly collaborative, visionary, creative, and dynamic leader to serve as its next Director of Rutgers Community Arts (RCA), a community-facing program that offers classes, summer camps, and lessons in music, theater, dance, art & design, and filmmaking. Reporting directly to the Dean, the Director will oversee all aspects of RCA.

The Director works closely and collaboratively with the school’s senior leadership, faculty, and staff to articulate a vision for RCA that leverages its revenue-generating potential while furthering the school’s strategic priorities — in particular engagement as a means of fostering inclusivity and increasing access to the arts for underserved populations.

Duties and Responsibilities

Among the key duties of this position are:

Managing a small staff, the Director devises and implements strategies to align the mission, goals, and operations of RCA with those of the departments, working with department chairs and colleagues to recruit program faculty and participants as well as foster innovative curriculum, community engagement initiatives, and external partnerships.

Overseeing day-to-day business operations; coordinating scheduling and logistics, including housing, dining, and facilities for residential programs; overseeing program assessment and accreditation; coordinating operations with relevant university offices and ensuring compliance with university policies.

Cultivating partnerships with educational, business, and community organizations; developing assessment mechanisms to ensure quality and profitability; participating in fundraising efforts, including grant submissions on behalf of RCA; providing consistent, in-person leadership to RCA faculty, staff, and program participants; managing RCA staff and delegating responsibilities; and maintaining a level of leadership and visibility within Mason Gross, the community, and, as appropriate, the broader field of the arts.

Requirements

Master’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience

A minimum of five years administrative experience working with a similar community arts program or non-profit organization and/or leadership experience in a comparable role.

Experience developing and implementing long-range strategic institutional goals.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Excellent written, verbal, and public presentation skills.

The ability to work with diverse constituents.

Evenings and weekends often required.

A visual or performing arts background preferred.

Experience successfully generating revenue and/or raising funds through arts programs and/or non-profit organization preferred.

RCA uses several software applications in support of operations, including but not necessarily limited to, online payment, registration, and processing applications, Microsoft 365 Office Suite, Google Suite of applications, Asana (work management software), WordPress, and ArtSpace. Additionally, the Director will use software applications through Rutgers portals for expense management, financial reporting, procurement, employee management (hiring and evaluation), and scheduling.

Must be vaccinated and boosted against Covid-19, or submit religious or medical exemption.
