Funding for cultural agencies is once again in jeopardy. On April 3rd, President Trump released his FY 2027 budget request,Β again calling for the elimination of critical agencies. The budgetΒ proposes minimal fundingΒ to shutter both the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH):
-
$29 million to carry out the closureΒ of the National Endowment for the Arts.
-
$38 million to carry out the closureΒ for the National Endowment for the Humanities, including the administration of awards made before September 30th, 2026.
Last year, as FY2026 began, the Presidentβs budget request proposed eliminating NEA and NEH. However, thanks to the efforts of arts advocates, Congress preserved funding for the arts and humanities at $207 million each.
